Dear HR Guru,
My company will soon be interviewing for three new employees. What can I do now to prepare?
Dear Employer:
The more contracts, clients and customers you get, the more physical bodies you're going to need. If you've made the decision to hire, here are a few pre-hire checks to help you find the right person:
Know what the job is
The job you create or "pass on" will depend on what you prefer not to do, what you don't have the skill to do, or what you simply don't have the time to do. The most common areas are general administration, customer service and sales.
Define the qualifications
Identify the tasks and responsibilities and how often they need to be done; the more accurate and comprehensive the description, the more likely you'll find the right person for the job.
Understand the responsibility
Before you hire someone, make sure you know your responsibilities as an employer. You can review employment standards for Canadians at
www.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca or for BC at
www.labour.gov.bc.ca/esb/.
Look in the right places
75% of small businesses rely on referrals when looking for new employees - it's an effective screening process you can trust. This is where JobWave can help you. We are your local network to candidates who are pre-screened to your criteria and want to succeed.
